Our first day at the Louvre

It's hard to believe we're on our way to the Louvre. Everything Maddie studied last year in Social Studies is going to come alive for her. We've decided to spend 2 days at the Louvre. Our first day is going to focus on Egyptian and Greek history. The highlights for Maddie are too many to mention, for me Venus de Milo was awe inspiring. The light was perfect and not too many people. Lee and Maddie made like the tourists we are at the entrance with the pyramid. Lee had a little more fun as we entered the start of the Egyptian sculptures.

We covered a lot of territory but still have so much more to see. Here are a few highlights of the day. A midst all of the amazing sculptures we had to remind ourselves to look up to remember the museum used to be a castle.

This is the entrance to the Egyptian exhibit.
You walk around the base of the original castle built in the early 13th century.

I want to say where's Waldo but really it's where's Smitty.

We were amazed at the contrast between the Egyptian sculpture against the Renaissance original room.

This gives you an idea how big each gallery is.

One of the amazing ceilings.

This is the entrance to Apollo's Gallery which is based on the calendar and the zodiac.

For the birthday girl...

Remember when you were a kid and you drew your version of a crown. Well here's the real thing. Full of diamonds, rubies, emeralds and pearls. Truly breath taking.

Here's my girl - Venus de Milo.

Another amazing gallery

The "N"s in the ceiling are for Napoleon.

This is one of the many amazing corner sculptures on the ceilings.

This little pigeon didn't want to be left out of all the excitement.
